Revd Dr David Miell
Revd Dr David Miell is Vicar of the Parish of Ringwood. His licensing service was held in the Parish Church on 5 September 2011.
Before joining the Parish, David wrote about his background for the Parish Magazine.
Henriet and I are very excited at the prospect of coming to live and work in the parish of Ringwood. We love the town and the surrounding area, which I know quite well from having lived in nearby New Milton until I went to university: I went to Christchurch Grammar School (as it was known in those days) and Brockenhurst Sixth Form College, and spent many happy days cycling around the New Forest as a teenager.
After university I worked for a couple of years as a Lecturer in Psychology in Cardiff before training in Cambridge for the ordained ministry. In 1986 I became Assistant Curate in Oxford and this was followed by eight years as Team Vicar in Milton Keynes and nine years as Team Rector in Slough. In this time I have worked in quite a variety of parishes: outer housing estates, villages being engulfed by a new city, and a traditional town centre.
I’ve been enjoying a bit of a break from full-time stipendiary ministry in the past few years, doing some theological research, but most recently I have been helping out in Devizes, a market town much like Ringwood. I’m eagerly looking forward to resuming an incumbent’s role and to working with what I have already discovered to be an excellent team of lay and ordained colleagues.
Joining Henriet and me in our new home will be Henriet’s mum, Tineke, and her two dogs, a yappy little one called Djintan, and a boisterous flat-coated retriever called Toean, who is very much looking forward to long runs in the New Forest! We all look forward to making your acquaintance and to working with you to serve the parish and its people in the years ahead.
